The 2011 lunch took place on Friday 15th April and saw a welcome return to The Wharf at Teddington, beautifully
located on the River Thames and has providing the very best dining we have enjoyed at any of our lunches.
In addition
to the usual fine food, drink and company, and entertainment provided by comedian Bob Webb, a couple of innovations for this,
the 9th, annual lunch: after the meal several regulars took to their feet to mark the occasion with some comments reflecting
their appreciation of England and its history, referencing English greats such as Shakespeare.
Afterwards, for
the first time, a professional led the singing of our anthems, belting out Jerusalem and Land of Hope of Glory before moving
into a less formal session featuring a number of poular standards.
In
2010 for the 8th lunch England cricket captain Graham Gooch was the guest speaker at the Star & Garter on the river by
Putney Bridge. After After Graham’s excellent contribution, full of anecdotes and humour from his playing and touring
days around the world, we enjoyed a few rousing songs before adjourning for assorted evening entertainment around the capital.
We also welcomed back Joe Goodman, 'King of the One-liners' as our Compere for the afternoon, with Joe
hosting the luncheon in his own inimitable style.
St George's Day regular Andy Dunford saw his continued support
recognized with the annual ‘George of the Year’ award and the Moran Hotel Group then generously supplied
a weekend for two at one of their hotels which was raffled in aid of the nominated charity, Samaritans.
